but on the contrary, was employed for the greater part of the war, in the naval service of the United States, as a Purser's clerk on board the U.S. Thanice 

Capt. Rowan, the other owners of the property (except Harrison Robertson) were & had been for years, residents of James City County, Virginia, all females. - Harrison Robertson was a resident of Norfolk and participated in the Rebellion; but has since received a Special Pardon from the President of the United States [[strikethrough]] for is participation [[/strikethrough]] 
William Robertson, as before said, was a loyal citizen of the United States during the whole war. - The other female owners were pardoned by the President's Proclamation of May 29, 1865; none of them being worth $20,000, and none of them being included in any of the Excepted classes speciefied in the Proclamation. - Littleton T. Waller, the husband of said Elizabeth C. was pardoned by the same proclamation being worth less than $20,000, and not included in any of the Excepted classes.  
L.T. Waller, Elizabeth C. Waller, & Helen V. Robertson all took the oath of allegiance to the U.S. in May 1865, before the Provost Marshall of the City of Norfolk - The original certificates granted to them were delivered to the Bureau H'qrs at Richmond in November 1865, to be filed with the application then pending by these Petitioners.
