J.42.1 Vol 67

Johnson, James
Maj. and Supt.

Bureau of R.F. and A.L.
Office, Supt 3rd Dist.
Richmond, Va., March 23rd 67.

Respectfully returned to Bvt. Brig. Genl. O. Brown, Asst. Comr. State of Virginia. William Brown (cold) recognizes the within named children to be his and refuses to allow them to return to Mr. Evans whom he alleges treated the children so cruelly that they ran away and came to Richmond Va. to seek the protection of their father. Brown also states, Evans compelled the mother of the children, through fear, to indenture them. These children are now well provided for by Brown who is abundantly able to care for them.
