The allegation is not enough to unsettle the rights of peaceable possession.  I shall very soon get the evidence in this case, but have to wait for a gentle man in Alexandria.

I will not unnecessarily delay action and only ask a fair time, which from the absence of the owner (as he claims he is) may be more extended than under other circumstances.

Permit me to say, and not from any purpose of either idle or insidious compliment, that I have no fear that the Officers of the Bureau will seek any injustice, or hurriedly, because of power to act at will, prevent a right.  My inter course with the authorities, at this place, Petersburg & Richmond has proved to me that they are Gentlemen and that is enough to entitle them both to my respect and my confidence
