Bvt Capt & Asst Supt Report of disturbance occurring in Farmville Va. Representations made that the Rail Road gang would attempt to rescue their comrades who had been arrested. Threats against my life - No police. immediate action necessary. Ordered the gang to leave the town with in an hour - which they did - May have exceeded my authority - but accept the responsibility as I considered it actually necessary. Arrested six - four released, two to be tried to day - The following is the damage done. One white man stabbed. Two freedmen & one freedwoman beaten Troops necessary at this Post.
