to suppose it had ever been a part of a saddle as it was no different from any other old piece of leather and judging from the appearance of the edges I should think it had been cut a long time before the night of the 16th of march when the Saddle skirts were cut off. I cannot think that the jury gave him justice upon the evidence nor do I think the same jury would have convicted a white man on the same evidence.
