Clarksville. April 17" 1866

Capt. Stuart Barnes A.Q.M.
Supt 2nd. Dist. Va.
Petersburg Va.

Captain
I have the honor to specially report the following case -

On the 16" inst, the County Court assembled at Boydton, present 18 Magistrates,_ On motions, it was ordered that the citizens selected by the white citizens be paid $60 00 pr. mo. while serving on the Freedmens Court_ I then suggested that the citizens selected by the freedmen (D. M. Dunhaven Esq.) be allowed equal compensation; urging that as a recent law of Va. declared the freedmen taxable and the Assessor of the Co. was now registering them for the purpose of taxation, they were entitled to this as a right &c. &c.

Transcription Notes:
Not sure of the attorney's last name - it looks to me like Dunhaven, but the previous transcriber saw it as Dunderson. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2023-07-26 10:10:29
