Captain,
I have the honor to report [[strikeout]] a [[/strikeout]] the cold-blooded and [[strikeout]] w [[/strikeout]] premeditated murder of a freedman in this Co, named Willis Craighead. Saturday night May 5th he heard the dogs barking furiously, and went to the door to see what the matter was. As he opened the door some one fired at him with a shot gun. (the shot can be seen in the door) but did not hit him, he shut the door and went back to his fire; in about fifteen minutes after this, these men supposed to be white came to the door and knocked, he opened it they asked his name he said "Willis_"  They then told him to come out, he did so, in a very short time five shots were fired in rapid succession, his family remained in
