The house occupied by this man was situated about ten (10) yds from the main house on the place, the murder was committed before bed-time, as the guns were heard by all the neighbors, Mrs Smith swore that she thought the firing was by the young gentlemen (meaning the police) as they often came around to scare the negroes. ) The inquest seemed to be conducted fairly, and with a desire to find out the perpetrators, but as yet there seems to have no clue to this horrible affair, Willis had had difficulty with no one except Mrs Smith as I can ascertain, she seems to have disliked him much,
