General:
I have the honor to inform you that I proceeded to Lunenburg County Va aggreable to orders from Bureau R. F and A Lands Head Quarters Asst' Com' State of Virginia dated Richmond Va May 17th 1866 and respectfully submit the folowing report of my investigations of the murder of "Willis Craighead" "Colored" in Lunenburg County, Va on the night of May 5th 1866.

Willis Craighead and wife "Colored" were in the employ of a widow lady named Mrs Smith cultivating her farm which is situated twelve miles from Lunenburg Court House on the road towards Keysville Va and upon which farm none others resided but said Mrs Smith "Willis" and wife.

Some four days previous to the murder of "Willis" he was sent by Mrs Smith to a Mrs Luky Ashleigh living about three fourths of a mile to tell her to come over that she Mrs Smith wanted to see her, "Willis" did as directed when Mrs Ashleigh seemed to get offended and said she, did not believe him and told him to leave the house which he did.

A Mrs Susan White who is related to the widow Smith and Mrs Ashleigh a few four days after the above occurrence stated that as she was making along the road near by where "willis" was
