ploughing he came towards her and wanted to know if she was Mrs Ashleigh at the same time holding a pair of hands over her head in a threatening manner, she replied that her name was White and that "Willis" then told her that "it was a good thing she wasent Mrs A as he had a settlement to make with her" after which she passed along.

These stories told by Mrs White and Ashleigh which seem very unlikely ones from the fact that"Willis" seemed to be a very peacably disposed person.

Four of the sons of Mrs Ashleigh who are named Washington, William, Jackson and Parks I am in the hopes of having sufficient evidence to forward you in a few days to show that they with Wm and E. B. White were the persons that murdered "Willis Craighead" "col'd" but for the present I hope I present herein sufficient evidence to cause the arrest of Washington and William Ashleigh.

On and about the 3rd and 4th of May 1866 Washington Ashleigh was heard on several occasions to say that he meant to kill "Willis" before Sunday the 6th inst and on Saturday afternoon May 5th inst he was heard to say that he would kill Willis before he slept that night and alleged as a reason the language alleged to have been used by "Willis" in regard to his mother Mrs Ashleigh.

On the night of the murder Miss Eliza Lester (Col'd) sister to "Willis" happened to be in the kitchen with "Willis" and his wife and distinctly heard the voice that called "Willis" out and afterwards hearing the voice of said Washington Ashleigh without seeing him either time she recognized
