He was to-day committed by said Magistrate to Jail without bail for the larceny of one of these horses_ He claims that U.S. soldiers seized these horses, himself, and comrades; even if he delivered them to the U.S. soldiers, I am firmly convinced that the felonious intent was wanting_ This seems to be a test case, and under it the important question arises, "will not the Govt protect the freedmen for the aid extended the Govt during the rebellion"?_
  
I earnestly request immediate attention to this case and suggest that the immediate release of Nelson Coleman be ordered_
