I hereby certify that the within named applicant Mrs E. C. Bainbridge is my mother-in-law, that at the breaking out of the late rebellion she was living in Louisiana, that as soon as practicable she removed to Layfayette Indiana, and still resides in the latter place, that she is now and has always been loyal to the U.S. Government and has never in any way aided the rebellion_ Both of her sons have served in the U.S. Army during the war and are now in the regular service viz Bt Lt. Col. E. C. Bainbridge Captain 5th Arty Lieut Wm P. Bainbridge 3rd U.S, Calvery, recently appointed, but borne on the Army register for 1865 as Captain A.D.C. to Maj Genl Reynolds.
