-Sir-
My attention has just been called to the fact that the Officer in charge of the interests of the Freedmen at Richmond claims the right to the improvements &c. on a small Island in the James river known as Brown's Island belonging to the estate of Hall Neilson decd

Hall Neilson an old resident of Richmond, a most excellent and loyal man removed his family to Philadelphia just before the war, leaving all his property in Richmond because he was unable to sell his real estate or remove his personal property. He died soon afterwards. I knew him and his family for ten years before the war.

Last fall at the request of the widow
