Greensboro N.C. 1 mo. 16 1866

Col. O. Brown  }
[[Es Phil.?]] }

Under date of 16 ult. I have notice from P. C. Garrett 400 Chesnut St. Ph'a of his shipt. by steamer thence to Richmond Va. 1 Box & 1 bbl. sent to him from M. Pierce's friends for her.

"We have asked Col. Brown to ship [[strikethrough]]th[[/strikethrough]] it by good transportation to care of Capt. Lyons at Greensboro" From thence it is my duty to forward it to Salisbury M.P's residence. This is to notify that I have yet heard no intelligence of said packages. Will thee be kind enough to drop me a line giving such information as may be in thy possession about them. Is this channel (the Q.M. dept.) apt to be slow & precarious? & would it be better to avail ourselves of the facilities of Express Cos even at the additional cost? Early in last month I came to this post under appointment of Supt. of Frds. Sls. here in N.C. & Danville Va. Passing through Richmond so early in the day as to afford an opportunity of seeing thee, prevented me from contracting acquaintance at that time - as the enclosure will show. Hoping it is not too late. I may yet occasionally avail myself of thy official aid

Truly thy sincere frd
Ths. Conard
