John Clancey, sworn— Resides in Norfolk. Was & is employed by Govt, to drive the horses of steam fire engine, Is partly under the control of the City Fire Dept.-got through the fire about 7 1/2 o'clock. -Was not near the building, having to stay by my horses all the time — Have not heard anything about the origin of the fire, except the rumors of its being set on fire-

Cas H. Hall sworn— Resides in Norfolk Is a magistrate-Knew of the fire-Heard they had burned down Nigger school-Concert Hall-Ashland Hall- Heard nothing about the fire particularly Persons standing about the fire stated it was but the beginning of such things. Think it was set on fire, Has no prejudice against Col'd School. Do not know of any arrests by the Police on acct. of the fire. Never saw any badge or Policeman—

J. H. Borum sworn Reside in Norfolk Collect state taxes-Third fire was bet 3 & 4. Think there were [[?]] streams on fire where I got there. I think there was no disposition
