Have not heard any remarks connected with the fire- Never knew that Concert Hall belonged to the city- I consider the city worse off with the present Police than without them—

Capt Grey-sworn Is Capt of Night Watch. The Mayor has charge of the day Police-Has not power to disarm the Col'd people. Think if I had order would be observed. I obey the orders of the Com. Council I was elected by the people. I am under the orders of the Mayor- The Constable are also elected by the people. I saw all whites arrested by Watchmen to the Mayor. All Col'd People to Freedmen's Bureau. The Capt. is on duty all night I remember the fire at Concert Hall My opinion is that it was the work of an incendiary. I repaired to the fire as soon as alarm was given, I saw the building burning, When I hear the alarm I go to it- My hours at my off as from 7 P.M. until daylight in the morning-

I have 18 regular watchmen under me-16-extra have been called out since the withdrawal of the Military. I have one Lieut- Lays out the city in eight beats- Four are on a beat
