ideas of freedom, became idle and careless, and the retaining them on the plantations was an injury rather than a benefit to the farmer; Much change has taken place in my sub Dist, within the last few months, in the ideas of the freedmen, and they are now becoming convinced that regular and steady labor is a necessity.

But few indigent and helpless freedmen have been thrown upon the County Authorities for support; the former owner or the relatives, in most all cases, are very willing to support the aged and helpless.

No schools have been established as yet, but steps have been taken to establish one in this County and one in Pulaski County.

The people here do not seem inclined to assist the freedmen in acquiring any education.

There is nothing further worthy of report in reference to "Bureau" Affairs in this Sub Dist.
