Statement of Jane Twyman

I formerly belonged to Abner Yates of this county I was joking with Eliza Shanks when I told her that Mrs Perry and her daughter Ella and Mr John Royston slept together I did not know anything of the kind I was well treated by Mrs Perry. She would scold me a good deal Tom a little Black boy told us in the kitchen that the parties did sleep together I never told it to anyone else. Polly, Lucy and I were in the kitchen when Tom told us

Dr Perry told me 5 or 6 times that he did not want me but kept me another month until he could get another to take my place Jacob Shank and Master Andrew I Yates brought me to the house in a wheel barrow I did not hear the Dr call me and would not have run only that Lucy told me to do so. I think he (the Dr) fired 2 or 3 shots at me After I fell the (Dr) came up and examined my wound and said he was sorry for it and did not mean to do it but only wanted to scare me. After I was brought in and lay upon the floor George Perry the Drs Son cam in and struck me on the head & jumped on me and stomped me with his feet Jackson Yates then took his Pistol from him and his Father the Dr told him to come out. I have been very well treated since
