boy and take him back for she didnt want him running around here and there and that she did not know where Jack had run to - I immediately examined into the case and found Gays statement all correct - by statements of other parties and the mother herself and conclude that the boy Jack should go back and stay with Gay this year and gave orders to that effect and to find the boy.

The boy was found with a man by the name of Mathews who I know has all he can do to get along - and Mathews after being informed by Gay of the orders in regard to the boy requested of Gay to let the boy remain with him two weeks and then he would send him home, Gay consenting, During the intervening time Mathews came down to me and wished me to arrange affairs so that he could have the boys services. I told him no and added that Jack should go back to Gay. Then he told me that Sally Woodson had a son working near where he lived not yet of age and thought this son Philip ought to help his mother. I made a note of his officiousness and told him to send Philip down to me. Philip came and after inquiry I advised him that as he was nearly a man he should save his earnings and endeavor to help his mother some when necessary. He of course promised that he would and then ask me if Jack should go back to Gay. I told him most certainly and to stay this year out whereupon he left apparently well satisfied. Everything passed along very well with all the parties until very recently when this Philip Woodson brought his mother (Sally) over - The boy Philip stating that his mother wanted to get Jack away from Gays and told me a very large misstatement. I asked the mother a few questions and was satisfied that she had been persuaded and in fact she told me that she would rather Mr Gay should have the boy Jack.
