than any other man. I then told her to go home and I would see to the affair - I saw the boy Jack and he told me that he would rather be with Mr Gay than anybody else and that Mr Gay had never whipped him but once and then it didnt hurt him and if he had been whipped more it would have been right and that it was false that Mr Gay had ever beat him wrongfully. Jack also told me that he broke into the trunk and was afraid of the colored girls and broke out and that was the only reason.

Sally Woodson stated to me that she would rather Mr Gay to have Jack than any other person and if she with her three small children had no home she would go to Mr Gay before anywhere else and that she is satisfied that Jack should stay all of this year and as long as he is willing and now again she tells me that she wishes Mr Gay to keep the boy and brush him when he needs it for she knows he is a bad boy.

I am inclined to think some white person or some body else has put the boy Philip Woodson up to many things and gave him more advice than necessary.
