BUREAU OF REFUGEES, FREEDMEN AND ABANDONED LANDS.
HEAD-QUARTERS SUPT. 8th DISTRICT VA.
Wytheville, June 13th 1866.

General.

I send enclosed, copy of a communication from the Secretary of War mustering me out of U.S. Service.

If it is consistent with the wishes of the Bureau and the order cannot be revoked I would like to be retained as agent for the Bureau, having been Supt of this Dist for about 12 months and given I believe good satisfaction to both classes of citizens in the District. I think I could continue still to subserve the interests of the Bureau, in my present position as Supt. if the Asst Com'r should see fit to retain me. If not I would respectfully request that some person be designated to relieve me.

I remain General
