I was in the coach driven by Capps on
the 16"-.. of April. Saw Long riding
about with his hat in his hand as if 
collecting money. A pistol was fired.
We drove into the street.  When
I saw Long next. he was leading a
white man. He told the crowd not to 
interfere but to let him and the other man
on horseback, take him home. They
carried him into Nicholson St. toward
his home.

Was in Capps hack on the 16th of April. 
Sam Long apparently collecting money. When
I heard a pistol and the crowd started away. When I saw Long afterward, he and another man on horses were leading White-hurst. The crowd cried our "Shoot him! Shoot him" Long said: "Don't interfere. If you shoot him
