C. 489. R.F. and A.L. Va. 3d V. 1866.

July 31st 1866

Mrs Caroline Ford
Madam, I purchased of Mr Lewis Jones a little girl (quite small) named Nannie Lee. She is still in my possession. I offered her to the Yankee Authorities but none of them would take her And rather than turn the little girl out of doors I took care of her and not knowing any thing of her parents I had her bound by the Yankee Civil Authorities to me until she be comes 18 years of age. You can get your child by paying me her board from April 10th 1865 [[strikethrough]] until [[/strikethrough]] up to the present time. I will make the charge for her board and clothing light. I have taken special care of her, as her healthy appearance will show. I think I should be compensated for my labor
