County went in Search of said Stephen Jones "col'd" and finding him, Arrested him and brought him to the Captain of police of that district, who turned him over to the aforesaid William D Shelton (Policeman) to guard him (Jones) until arrangements could be made to send the said Jones to the County Jail, for confinement. Said Jones endeavoured to escape by running away from the guard, the aforesaid William D Shelton shot at the prisoner (Jones) at Forty (40) yards distant with a pistole the ball entering his (Jones) head passed into the brain and caused death the following day (Monday the 20th Inst.). Said William D Shelton delivered himself up to a magistrate and pleaded guilty (to the shooting and killing of said Jones) was tried and sent on to the County Court for further trial, he giving bail in  the sum of $500.00 to answer the above charge before said County Court,
