Freedmens Hospital. Hampton, Va
August 25th, 1865.

Surgeon J.J. De Lamater
Chief Med. Off. Bureau
Richmond, Va

Sir,
I have the honor to state, that the rations issued to sick freedmen in Quarters in this vicinity are not suited to their wants. The present ration consists of corn meal on
hard bread and fish with one ration of fresh beef per week.
I would respectfully request that the rations ordered by circular No. 8, Bureau of Refugees Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, Washington D.C. be substituted.
Very Respectfully
Your Obedient Servant
