   His communication to Maj. Genl. Schofield, I  am fully pursuaded was not penned by himself, but written by the Ex Post Master of Christiansburg, and the latter I doubt not is responsible for the closing statement, in which it  is inferred, "that the compromissing timidity of the Officers of the Bureau, to Mr. Johnson's policy, makes it a hopeless case to obtain redress for grievances."  The Ex. Post Master has made this inference, on account of his inability to obtain the consent of the Officers of the Bureau, to aid, assist and importune, his restoration to office; after having been deposed by the President.  You will remember my communication of June 30th in relation to the matter, and your answer of July 1st, that it would not be proper to endorse his petition- this he considered as being dictated by "the terror which Rebel ascendency under Johnson's favoritism or (my policy) inspires."
   On the day following the receipt of Mr Taylor's communication, I was inform by that Gentleman, that Mr. Cofer had called on him, a few hours previous.
