I told him I had not authorized Holly to buy anything whatever for me - He just informed me that Holly had told him to bring four loads of wood for me and that I would pay the cash on delivery, Now sir I looked upon this statement when taken in connection with that of Mr Dolds (U.S Int Col) as conclusive proof that Holly was doing business on my name, I saw him while the man who brought the wood was still present and asked him what he meant by making the statements he had, He denied having told Mr. Dold that I was indebted to him, but as the man who brought the wood to my house, was standing near he who brought the wood he could not and did not deny the statement made by him - I then cautioned Holly against doing anything of the kind again - when he replied to me in a rather insolent manner, and I told him in unmistakable English that if he gave me any more of his insolence or continued to annoy me as he had been doing. I would shoot him full of holes -

Now Sir I meant just what I said I have twice been assaulted in this place. No notice has been taken of the matter - by either the civil or military authorities and while I do not wish to claim any special privilege on account of my being an officer of the U.S.A - I do not on the other hand contemplate allowing myself to be treated like a felon or an outcast
