I have the honor to state that the 3d US.CC, landed recently, and mustered out of the service, brought the Small Pox with them to City Point where eight cases now exist, one of the men mustered out came to Richmond and has died with Small Pox here - another went to Yorktown, and is sick with Small Pox there. Some deaths occurred from Small Pox in the passage of the Steamer among their men. It is unfortunate that they were, under the circumstances, allowed to land at City Point, and thus give origin to the disease there and elsewhere. A Steamer with soldiers from the same portion of Texas is expected daily at City Point. Very likely they will bring additional cases of the disease with them - but if they do not they will be exposed to it there, and when they scatter through the state will carry the seeds of the disease with them.
