OFFICE SUPERINTENDENT 1ST DIST. VA.,
Norfolk, Va., March 11th 1866
My Dear Colonel
I write today that Capt. Wells called upon me this morning and gave me an account of the unfortunate difference that occurred between him Genl Miles
I think on mature[[strikethrough]] ty [[/strikethrough]] consideration that the captain would have an unpleasant situation if he were to stay at the HQ; my experience goes to show that any officer who looses the good will of the Commandant might as well give up and get out as easily as possible. I trust you will consider the case of Capt Wells and do what you can to relieve him of his unpleasant difficulties
