Norfolk Va March   1866

The following is the Report of the Employment Office for the months ended Febuary & January also
the number of applicants for laborers the month (Feb) has not been so large as that of last month numbering twenty eight thirty less than in the month of January & while the total number of applicants for laborers in the two months was 86 (all of which was for the farms) in this & the adjecent counties of North Carolina) the number of applicants for labor exceeded One hundred of this number more than two thirds were woman wanting places in the City but of the whole number of Farm hands wanted eighty six we could not furnish one while we found round about the City more than twice the number wanted, who wanted employment within the City limits but unwilling
