Accomac County Court Clerks Office
April 12th 1866

In answer to the enquiries contained in Circular No. 15 from the Head Quarters Ast. Comssr. State of Virginia Bureau of R.F. and A.L. dated April 11th 1866. I reply:

1st The amount of County levy required to be paid by each tithable person in said county for the year 1865 was four dollars ($4). The levy for the present year has not been assessed.

2nd The amount of poor levy in said county for the year 1865 was three thousand seven hundred thirty nine dollars and fifty five cents. ($3739.55) I have no information as to the amount which will be required for the present year.

3rd The same class of colored males are exempt from county and poor tax as white males, no distinction being made. Such persons both white and colored, are exempted as the Court of the County by order of record may exempt because of age, infirmity or a charitable reason.
