Sir,
At the earnest solicitation of Mr. John Houchins, who is a very poor man and our mail rider from this place to Germanton NC I am induced to venture a few words in his behalf, and ask your most respectful consideration of his case: which is follows: just after Gen Stonemen passed through this county, a man by the name of Scott, from the Yankee Army, captured a horse from one [[strikethrough]] Joseph [[/strikethrough]] Noah Scales, who was a confederate soldier, and who had himself captured the horse from one of Gen Averell's men, with the mark US on him - Scott gave him to one James Hill - Hill not satisfied with one horse determined to have a second one -
