Supt Freedmans Bureau
Wytheville Va.

Dr. Sir, One day last week I learned that the Supt of the Bureau at Marion about 18 miles from here wished to see me in reference to some colored children which I have at my house. I went yesterday to see him and he informed me that he had returned the Papers to you. Your Office being Head Quarters for this district, I desire to make a statement of the case and to have you advise me what to do in the matter. There are two of the children one about 4 1/2 years old the other about 6 1/2 years. About a year since I wrote to their Father. that if it suited him, that on a/c of the attatchment of an only child for them, that I would take the children and bring them up as they should be give them an Education &c. I heard nothing from him untill his letter of the 11th of April. a copy of which I enclose. The letter of mine which you have. was in [[strikethrough]] my [[/strikethrough]] answer to his No person has ever called for the children nor did the Father furnish any means to pay the expenses by Express if it had been possible for so young Children to have been sent in that way. I most Earnestly desire that some one who will keep them from suffering should take them away. Or that the proper Authorities should bind them to me so that after I have kept them eight or ten years they cannot be taken away from me with mine or their consent.

Their Mother died when the youngest was about
