Col O. Brown Asst Com &c

Colonel.
Upon the good faith I had in my contract made with the Bureau R.F. & A.L. on the 31st July 1865, I moved my family & their furniture from the City of Baltimore Md. Upon like good faith in the Bureau I made contract in proper form, for the rental for one year, of the "Peters House" foot of Court Street, and placed my family and their furniture therein.

I am now called upon in a civil suit to answer to the charge of "unlawfully occupying" said house. My Attorney thinks, no Jury, likely, to be called in this case, will dicide that the Bureau has any legal right to lease abandoned property, and that your Genl Order No 24 will be used to make my Lease null & void, thereby subjecting me to further unjust expense & annoyance. 1st if void immediate ejection into the streets & costs.

2nd repudiation of amt. rent stipulated in said Lease, and enormous demands for rental during my ocupancy, and in case of my protesting, another suit at Law, with all its annoyances & expenses. I most respectfully ask your usual promptness in adjusting this matter, as seems just and right under all the circumstances. I trust you will so act as to relieve me from further unnecessary trouble and expense.

Very Respy Yours &c W.H. Hunt
