Capt T.F.P. Crandon
A.Q.M. Supt 4 Dist Va

Capt

I have the honor to forward the statement of Mr Cornelius Campbell in referrence to the claim Frank Martin, freeman, on some property in Bowling Green, which he avers was the property his father, Jim Gray.

I have made a thorough examination of the case, and from all I can glean I have no hesitation in saying, that Frank Martin has no claim whatever on said, property.

From my conversation with Mr Campbell I learned more of the affair than he has set forth in his letter to me, I believe that the whole story is as follows.

Jim Gray was negociating for the purchase of the land from Mr Hudgin (who was acting as attorney for the estate) and gave him on trade (some cattle) some $30.00 Mr Campbell had in some manner to act "Master" for him, and gave his note for the balance ($70). Then Jim Gray bought a Mare, for forty five dollars. Mr C. going his security, which Mr C. had to pay. The deed was made to Mr c. and he (Mr C.) sold the property years ago

I am Captain
Very Respectfully Your Obdt Servt
