Amelia Court House, Va.
January, 8th, 1866.

Colonel Brown,
Supt. Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen & Ab. Lands.
Richmond, Va.

Colonel,

I have the honor to respectfully call your attention on the following statement:

A member of the 41st. Regt. N.Y. Vols., I acted, during the months of August, September and a part of October, 1865, as a Clerk for 1st. Lieut. Otto Heusinger, 41st. N.Y. Vols., who was then Sub Supt. Freedmen's Bureau in Powhatan County.

During the month of October, I was promoted Hospital Steward, and joined the Hdqtrs. of my Regiment at Amelia Court House. On the 8th day of December, 1865, my Regiment was mustered out the service. Since that time, I have been looking for some employment, but without success, owing to the time of the year, and I find myself in an almost Despondant condition.

In consequence of the preceding facts, I have the honor to respectfully apply for a position as Clerk or otherwise
