Harpers Ferry Va Feby 2d/66

Colonel
I forward the accompanying communication because it is correct, and appears to me necessary in order to put myself right in the record in case Mr Yantes should complain that he cannot get possessions, but this morning I learned that Col. Edie intends to vacate, "and that he is a pretty clever old fellow and its only his way &c" but its an intolerably mean way and If I am to do business with him I would like to establish some other basis of action.

It also occurs to me that this is in Gen Hancocks command and I have hitherto avoided any [[strikethrough]] question that [[/strikethrough]] actions that might raise questions of jurisdiction, or mix us in the muddle which exists in relation to this and Berkely Countys being in, or not in Virginia.

So if you think best put the papers in the fire

Yours &c
W. Stinton
Captain
