County is fair. they are most all employed at fair wages, most of them have entered into agreements with their employers for this year. The late rebels here manifest a purpose to oppress the colored people all they can. The majority of the people being loyal and the rullers loyal, the disloyal element vent all their spite upon the heads of the poor Blacks, and I am sorry to say that I have observed many loyal persons as strongly prejudicial against the freedmen as the disloyal.

Their was an intention manifested by the rowdys to brake up the freedmen School at this place which is under the charge of Miss Foster, they were encouraged in their proceeding by the disloyal and prejudiced residents of the town. They interrupted, (or rather attempted to interuppt the school) four or five different times, one evening a Revd gentleman (a white man) was preaching to the freedmen, when a large stone weighing about twenty pounds was thrown against the door it was (the door) carried clean off its hinges I instructed the freedmen (as the only way to catch them) for some of them to run out out and nab them in the act, the
