[[Freed]]men to find some kind of employment whereby they can earn an honorable living.

5th
During the present month, there has been one Idiotic Freedwoman thrown upon my hands; having been found upon the street, in a naked and destitute condition, her "former master" having moved to Mississippa, and left her to do the best she could. Mrs Rufner, a kind and noble lady of this City, gave her comfortable clothing; (of which I was truly grateful) and the Overseer of the poor, for this County, took charge of her as a pauper.

6th
There has been less complaints during this month than any one previous since the organization of the Bureau in this place; which shows plainly that the citizens are begining to act fairly by the freedmen, and each seem to have more confidence in the other than they did at my last report.

7th
The Freedmen's Schools, located in this city, are doing finely, but there is a lack of teachers; there being three hundred and sixty five schollars, all told, and only three teachers (and one of them, not sent out as a teacher; but, as the schools are so full, she voluntarily assists) they cannot therefore do justice to the Schollars, for they cannot hear them all read at one session. If the Schools are to continue, there should be at least two more teachers or a large portion of the schollars will have to quit.
