States that, in regard to the outrages on teachers of Freedmen, he reported the fact to Capt W S How, and asked for a squad of Cavalry to arrest the parties. He sent a squad of soldiers to look for guns, at the time a discharged Union soldier, was fired upon, as at that time he was in command of troops at that place.
