The civil law, encumbered with the prejudices of the people in the vicinity of Middletown, together with its slow workings, is inadequate to force a disclosure upon the part of Leary, or to punish him for selling freemen into bondage.

Can we have authority to use the Military to arrest Leary and Richardson, and force them to restore this family, and also to respond in damages to the amount of expenses if nothing more.

The said husband (Christopher Alesworth) is an industrious and honest man; he is in every way qualified to sustain his family; of this, testimony can be produced from amongst the most respectable citizens of this place.  Hoping that you will advise in this matter.
