Lewy sold this woman & her children soon after they were returned to him, & since their sale the husband has been unable to learn where they were taken to. Supposes they were carried to Richmond. I desire that you will endeavor to ascertain whether my letter reached Genl. Howards dept. & if so what they will advise - if you cannot do this, pursue any cause that you may deem prudent, to procure the desired information - remit your bill for such trouble as you may be at & I will forward promptly. 

All well - business fair - I shall be in Washington next month.
