I have the honor herewith through request of Genl Howard to make applications for an appointment in Quartermaster Department or in Bureau Office as Clerk. But in preference to all i would rather have a good farm in or back Richmond that i could work it on halves for Goverment or lease it for a time or superintend a Goverment Plantation. But do you think farming would pay better than anything els. Well you have kindness to answer Immediately and inform me the very best you can do for me in your department.
Colonel Just see what you can do for soldier I am anxious to come on that way.
