States that John Sears is laying claim to, and endeavoring to get possession of cattle left by the U.S. and Rebel armies in the neighborhood, which have been in possession of other citizens [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] since the surrender of Lee's army and asking that the matter may be enquired into and a stop put to the proceedings of Sears

Respectfully referred to Capt R.S. Lacey Supt of 7th Dist who will assist Lt Isaac P. Woodell Asst Supt of Appomattox Co to investigate this case & if the within allegations are true will notify Sears [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] to restore the cattle he has taken & will command him to refrain from further seizures.
