General,

Your petitioners, Creed Thomas, of the City of Richmond, Wray Thomas and Kendal Thomas, both of Columbus, Ohio, and their three sisters, Cleverine Knight of the county of Henrico, Delight Davis, of the county of Chesterfield, and Ruth B. Hudnall, of the city of Richmond, most respectfully represent that as the heirs at law of their father, the late Benajah Thomas, who died in the city of Richmond, Virginia, about 23 years ago, they are jointly interested in a house and lot at the south-west corner of 8th & Broad streets, in the said city of Richmond; which property is part of the undivided estate of the said Benajah Thomas, deceased. That for a period of about ten years, the said house had been leased by the Administrator of the said estate to one James Ratcliffe, merchant, whose lease was to expire on or about the month of June, 1865.  That during the year 1864, the said Ratcliffe, without the consent of the said Administrator, or any of the heirs, as abovenamed, sublet the said house to the Medical Department of the late Confederate Government.
