As your Attorney on the Eastern Shore, I will lay before you the following statement of facts.

You will recollect that 50 acres of Wood-Land belonging to Smith S. Nottingham (who left the E. Shore before the war, & now resides near Petersburg) were sold under an order of court to satisfy the claims of judgment creditors, in December last, and that you became the purchaser of a portion of the land.
