Norfolk, Va Septr 16th 1865

Mr. Charles E. Johnston Asst Superintendent of Freedmans Bureau

Sir your Bureau now holds possession of my property situated as follows. Nos 2, 4, 8, and 10 Virginia street and No 64 Bute street said property has been rented out by army officers and rents collected by them except No 2 Virginia st which was occupied by a Paymaster and now vacant I have taken the amnesty Oath of which I send you a copy and proven title to property and send a certificate from Clerk of United States court that there are no proceedings against my property and seeing no cause why said property should not be returned to me at once asks of you to give me an order for it so as to enable me to resume my former business hopeing this may
