I have the honor to report that during the month of May last a colored boy reported to me that he had been assaulted by the son of a man named Brokenburough.  The lad had been for some time past in the employ of Brokenburough and owing to the assault perpetrated upon him by his employers son he left his situation and obtained another, some time afterwards he applied to Brokenburough for the pay due him, which Brokenburough posatively refused to give him.

The boy again applied to me and I told him to go to a Magistrate and make his complaint, this he did, and Brokenburough was accordingly summoned - I was present at the trial and while Brokenburough admited that the amt claimed by the boy was justly due him and that the boy had been a faithfull servant he argued that owing to his having left without giving him due notice he (the boy) forfited his claim to any pay for the
