General. I have the honor to inform you that on the 18th of June last a Mr Dauce (white) met one Henry Thompson "Col'd" on the street in the City and said "I want you to go into the Country with me", which said Thompson refused to do then said Mr Dauce said "Where is my horse" to which said Thompson replied "I don't know any thing about your horse nor have I even seen your horse nor you before", then said Dauce struck said Thompson and was about to repeat the blow when said Thompson ran off to avoid it but was closely pursued by said Dauce and on 11th near Cary St was knocked down, kicked, struck with a brick and taken to the store of Martin and Gadozer Cor 12th and Gary street where his shirt was taken off and was about to be tied and whipped with a horse whip when the Police arrived who found it difficult to restrain the following named persons who committed the above assault.

Mr Dauce aforesaid residing on Oregon [[Hill?]], Mr Brown at firm of Martin and Gadozer Cor 12th and Gary street, Mr Tom Turner brother of Dick Turner of Libby Prison
