States that he was directed to arrest one Saml Anderson (white) which he succeeded in doing about the 18th of July, by assuming the name of Mr Carter and representing himself to be a friend of the said Sam' Anderson.- that he learned from a Mr Hopkins that once during the late war, Anderson was captured by two "Yankee Calvalry men" and when near the "Yankee lines" one of the Cavalry men removed his belt and revolver, which Anderson took unnoticed and shot both of them, leaving them for dead.

Respectfully forwarded to the Asst Comr Va. with the information that when this Anderson was arrested, a U.S. revolver with belt complete was found in his house with three U.S. muskets all loaded. These arms are now in this office, and I would request instructions regarding the disposition of them.
